Anne started coming along to Manchester Cares Social Clubs back in 2018, and has joined an impressive 190 clubs to date. A recent favourite was a tour of the Old Trafford stadium and museum which Anne, who used to go to Manchester United games regularly in the sixties, loved. She told us, “I thought I'd died and gone to heaven on the tour - it was brilliant”. Anne has a wide range of interests and regularly joins in with our activities, from Desert Island Discs to Documentary Club and many more!
Anne first met Trish at a Social Club just before lockdown, where they were put on a pub quiz team together. Anne told us that after the quiz that she and Trish “were stood outside the pub for ages, we seemed to just click”. The pair then decided that they’d like to be matched on our one-to-one friendship programme, and kept in touch throughout the pandemic.
After many hours chatting over the phone and on Zoom, Anne and Trish met up in June for a long-awaited visit to the Hip Hop Chip Shop and a stroll along the Angel Meadows Art Trail, where some of Anne’s photography was on display.
Anne told us, “Trish has given me confidence to do things I never thought I’d be able to do, like art and drawing - it’s nice to get someone else’s opinion, a younger person. I can be open with Trish and I can tell her anything.
I can see me and Trish being friends for a long time. When we get on the phone we chat for ages, we lose track of time.”
Trish first joined our community network in 2019, and has taken part in 42 of our Social Clubs, both virtual and face-to-face. She has even led her own club, taking neighbours on an exclusive tour of the Manchester Hip Hop Archives at Central Library.
Trish enjoys being part of our Love Your Neighbour programme and catching up with Anne. Of their friendship, Trish says, “I've loved chatting with Anne - we instantly got on from that first Social Club and I've felt that our friendship has grown stronger since. I feel like we always have something to talk about and update each other on. It was lovely to receive a magnet from Anne on our last meeting that read 'some friends are forever'. It's so lovely to know that Anne feels the same.”
The pair love to share recommendations for films, series, music and books, as well as going out for food together and exploring Manchester, past and present.
